Photographers warned to stay away from Horseshoe Pass as blaze burns on

Llangollen's Horseshoe Pass has been closed as firefighters continue to battle a fire that has been burning for 10 days.

The fire came perilously close to the A542 last night and police took the decision to shut the main route from Llangollen to Ruthin and onto the Welsh coast.

Officers say sightseers taking photographs of the fire have been hampering the work of the fire service.

Smoke from the fire, which took hold on Llantysilio mountain on July 18, can be seen from as far away as Wrexham and Mold.

On Thursday night, as the weather pushed in from the west, smoke drifted onto the A483 Wrexham bypass.

In a statement the police said: "The A542 Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen, will be closed due to mountain fire. Please avoid the area.

"People taking photographs have been causing problems for fire crews. Keep away for your safety and take alternative route."
