A fire broke out on the Horseshoe Pass, near to Llangollen, more than two weeks ago, and firefighters from around the region have been tackling the blaze.

The fire came close to the road and fire crews shut it off as they battled to keep the blaze under control.

Four fire appliances remain at the scene as they put out hot spots, however part of the road is now open.

When work has concluded, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that an investigation will take place, to establish how the fire happened.

The Ponderosa Cafe at the top of the pass was shut last weekend, however it is now back open, with owner Simon Clemence saying he hopes to see regular customers very soon.

Denbighshire County Council has been working alongside the fire service in the efforts to put out the blaze, and thanked their countryside services team for the work they have done.

A statement from the authority said: "Our countryside service teams have been out assisting the Fire and Rescue Service since the first fires broke and teams have been working tirelessly ever since.

“We have responded positively to all requests from the Fire and Rescue Service.

"We have provided our own specialist fire fighting equipment to assist the efforts and provided training to the firefighters. We have also been digging fire breaks, working closely with fire and rescue teams and colleagues from Natural Resources Wales to try and prevent the fire from spreading.

“The council is proud of its countryside teams and their efforts. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty and were determined to play their part in assisting colleagues in the firefighting efforts.”
