Dave Cornish, known by many as the club DJ in Newtown nightclub Crystals in Broad Street, and has brought entertainment to many over the years.

He also served as the voice of Radio Maldwyn, which ran from 1993 before going into liquidation in 2010.

Mr Cornish, 57, served as a mentor for many young DJs who have gone on to build music careers through his company Red Flame Productions.

The nightclub took to social media on Thursday to pay their respects to their long serving DJ, who also worked in a town bank, after his death.

The statement said: “It is with a very heavy heart that we write this message.

“Our friend and colleague Dave Cornish has passed away at the young age of 57.

“Dave has been a big part of Crystals since the very early days.

“A familiar face to many across the Mid Wales area, whether you knew him as the club DJ, the electrician, a voice on Radio Maldwyn or the bank manager.

“You couldn’t mistake Dave’s warm character – it was fast paced and he had huge passion for dance music.

“He was a friend and mentor to many aspiring DJs, some of whom have gone on to build successful careers in music.

“From teaching decks-skills clubs in school to taking DJs under his wing in his successful company Red Flame Productions.

“There aren’t many DJs in our area that haven’t had the pleasure of playing and working alongside Dave.

“Dave, The Regent Centre won’t be quite the same without you.

“Rest in peace, Mr C.”

James Clegg, one of the DJs that Mr Cornish mentored down the years, will be dedicating his set at the nightclub on August 26 entirely to his memory.

The nightclub have invited everyone along to pay their respects.

A friend of the DJ, Tim Bowen, paid tribute to the man he said “always had time for people”.

He added: “Dave was a pillar in the community.

“He was a man of integrity and excellence. He worked hard but always had time for people regardless of how busy he was.

“He affected countless people’s lives right from his early days working in the bank through to customers of Red Flame but mostly young DJ’s as that was his passion.

“He will be sorely missed.”
