Anne Carol Edwards, 29, purchased the pit bull cross dogs for £500 each, believing they were Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

However, when she split from her former partner, he informed police they were a banned breed and the dogs were seized.

Welshpool Magistrates Court has now granted a contingency destruction order, which will see the dogs, called Princess and Tyson, destroyed if their owner does not complete a list of requirements.

Sally Rogers, appearing on behalf of Dyfed-Powys Police, told the court that police were given information that Edwards' dogs were a prohibited breed

A warrant was issued, and police attended her property in April this year.

The dogs were seized and put in police kennels, before being examined.

The dogs were described as placid by officers, who also said Edwards, of Cledan, Newtown, was a fit and proper person to keep the dogs.

The application for the order was made, with a number of things to be completed in two months such as informing DEFRA, getting insurance for the animals, having them neutered and micro chipped.

The dogs also have to wear a muzzle in public and canot be unsupervised with children under 17.

Robert Hanratty, for Edwards, said that his client's former boyfriend had helped get the dogs through an acquaintance for £500 each.

He said there was no danger to children and the dogs had shown no sign of aggression.

Magistrates granted the order, and ordered Edwards to pay £226 costs.
