Nicky the donkey had slipped 20m down a slope near a river near Abermule, of all places.
Fire crews from across mid Wales were scrambled to the scene on Sunday morning.
A spokesperson for Newtown Fire Station said in a Facebook post: “Nothing says Christmas like a donkey rescue.
“Nicky the donkey was successfully rescued by Newtown Fire Station, Montgomery Fire Station, Welshpool Fire Station and Rhayader Fire Station.
“Teams worked well together to get her out and she’s resting up for Christmas herself now.”
