World famous aircraft on display at Welshpool show
A wealth of aerobatic spectacle and vintage flying machinery were on display at an annual air show.
The Bob Jones Memorial Air Show at Welshpool Airport took place on the same day as the Cosford Air Show, and the two even shared a fly past by the famous Red Arrows.
The event featured BAC Strikemaster, the Twister Aerobatics Team, Grob Tutor, Old Bückers, Team Raven, a Gyrocopter, Aviat Husky, Pitts Special S1-S, Lauren Richardson and Westland Whirlwind HAR10.
Yesterday's show not only included displays in the skies but also a transport festival with a wide range of exhibits of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes, buses and industrial vehicles.
Helicopter rides, trade stands and activities for children were among the other attractions at the event.
One plane which was not at the show was the De Havilland Sea Vixen, which flew from Royal Navy aircraft carriers in the 1960s and 70s.
The aircraft was due to be at the show but was damaged in a crash.
After appearing at the Duxford Air Show in Cambridgeshire about two weeks ago, it hit the ground at its base without its landing gear. The pilot was unharmed but the plane suffered major damage.
Robert Robinson, Welshpool Town Clerk, who organises the event, said a replacement aircraft, a Bronco, flew in to take part.
A statement on behalf of the organisers said: "The event is going really well.
"We didn't have the parachutists because it is too windy but there are plenty of people here and they seem to be enjoying themselves.
"The weather is on and off but it is remarkable compared with what it could have been like."
Welshpool Fire Station tweeted: "A fantastic turnout today at the Bob Jones Memorial Welshpool Air Show, great support from the local community."
