Two aircraft crashes over two days
Two aircraft crashed on airfields in Powys within two days, an investigators report has said.
On February 5, at around 2.10pm, a plan veered off the runway at Welshpool Airport and ended up in a hedge after a brake is thought to have jammed as a pilot attempted to take off.
The previous day another light aircraft crashed at the private Lane Farm airstrip in Paincastle as a pilot came into land.
The report from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has stated that both pilots escaped unharmed from the crashes.
On February 5, the plane sustained damage to the engine, propeller and fuselage.
The pilot of the plane was a 54-year-old man and the report states: "In hindsight, the pilot considered it possible that a more experienced pilot might have managed to bring the aircraft to a halt without hitting the hedge.
"He realised, given the period that had elapsed since his last flight, he should have considered asking an instructor to accompany him for this flight."
The previous day a plane had bounced back into the air upon landing at a private airstrip in Paincastle after the pilot approached the runway too high and too fast.
As the main wheels touched down, the aircraft bounced back into the air by a few feet.
It caused the nose of the plane to drop leading to the propeller hitting the ground and the engine to cut out.
However, the pilot was able to escape without any difficulty.
