The lorries were involved in a crash at Cefyn Bridge, Trewern near Welshpool, at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

The incident was close to the railway line that runs from Welshpool to Shrewsbury and the West Midlands.

Due to debris being on the track, and damage to barriers some rail services were disrupted until after 11.30pm

Transport for Wales, which runs the rain service put on bus replacement transport for passengers.

James Nicholas, spokesman for Transport for Wales thanked passengers for their payments.

He said: "We had reports of a road traffic accident at the Buttington Level Crossing on the A458 between Welshpool and Shrewsbury at around 6.30pm last night.

"The incident led to debris on the track and damage to safety barriers on the road, so unfortunately resulted in a number of trains between Shrewsbury and mid and west Wales being affected and replacement road transport being arranged as soon as we possibly could.

"We worked closely with our partners in Network Rail to minimise the disruption and the line was reopened at 11.30pm last night. We would like to thank customers for their patience."
