250 tonnes of waste burns in Welshpool recycling centre fire
Firefighters have been called out to tackle a large blaze at the Welshpool Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said five fire engines and a specialist appliance had been sent to Potters Yard in Severn Road.
The fire service said the blaze involved 200 tonnes of mixed household waste and 50 tonnes of garden compost.
About 40 firefighters and officers have been sent to the scene.
A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they had implemented a tactical plan and had set up a 'ground monitor' to prevent further spread of the fire.
Reports of a blaze were received at 4.46pm on Friday and crews are currently at the scene.
The blaze has caused smoke to blow over the train line and bypass.
