Firefighters from both the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to the fire at Middletown, near Welshpool, shortly after noon on Monday (December 9).
A statement from MAWWFRS said: "Crews from Welshpool, Montgomery, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Newtown and Llanidloes Fire Stations, assisted by SFRS crews, were called to an incident in Middletown in Welshpool.
"Crews responded to a fire within a barn measuring approximately 20 metres by 40 metres. Crews utilised four hose reel jets, ten breathing apparatus sets, one water pump and a water relay system between MAWWFRS and SFRS appliances to extinguish the fire.
"The barn was completely destroyed, an adjacent workshop was also completely destroyed and an adjacent barn was partially destroyed by fire.
"After the fire was extinguished, crews continued to monitor for hotspots and found approximately eight tonnes of hay smouldering."
The firefighters still had work to do making the scene safe, and the final crews left shortly after noon on Tuesday.
