County's canals could decline if government grants are cut
The body that cares for the UK's canals says a reduction in Government funding could have devastating consequences for the waterways system.
Shropshire boasts not only the Shropshire Union Canal but also the Llangollen and Montgomery canals meandering through parts of the county.
Chief executive of the Canal and Rivers Trust, Richard Parry, said funding custs could put the future of the nation's historic canals at risk.
"Our much-loved canal network, which is so important to us in different ways, relies on funding from multiple sources, government grant being one of them," he said.
