Shropshire motorists facing misery over major road closures
Motorists face more misery on Shropshire's roads, with three main roads hit by closures.
Three busy routes will be dug up for maintenance – the A41, the A529 and a busy link between the A525 and the A51.
It also emerged today that improvement works on Telford's Ketley Brook roundabout are running six weeks late.
Planned roadworks will be carried out on the A41 Newport to Market Drayton road, as well as the A529 Market Drayton to Audlem main route and a road in nearby Woore.
From Tuesday, the A41 from Warrant Road, Stoke Heath crossroads, to Chester Road at Hinstock will be subject to temporary traffic signals and convoy working for a month between 8am and 5.30am. The side roads surrounding the A41 will be closed as the work progresses across the junctions.
Ben Corfield, technical lead, said: “The works will be undertaken by Shropshire Council’s team maintenance contract, Ringway. It is estimated the works will take 28 working days to complete, however this work is weather dependent and part of a large programme which may be subject to unforeseen delays.
“During the works the A41 will remain open to traffic but will be subject to temporary traffic signals and convoy working which may result in delays.
“During the construction the majority of the side roads will be closed in phases as the works progress across the junctions.
“Warrant Crossroads, due to its size will remain open throughout the works. It is anticipated that the closure of the side roads will be for one day each.
“As usual with works of this nature there will be some disruption whilst the works are undertaken, however every effort will be made to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
Also starting on Tuesday are roadworks on the A529, Adderley Road from Market Drayton. This road will be closed for four days from 8am until 4pm.
And Candle Lane in Woore, near Market Drayton, a busy route between the A525 and A51, will be closed for a week from 8am until 5.30pm.
The Ketley Brook roundabout is being dug up as part of a £17.4 million package of improvements for junctions in Telford. The works were due to end at the end of April but will now close on May 10.
