A proposal has been submitted to Shropshire Council to make the improvements at Morrisons in Maer Lane, Market Drayton.

The scheme will involve creating an enlarged store entrance lobby and extending the customer cafe.

A statement submitted in support of the application states: "Whittam Cox Architects have been commissioned to provide a glazed entrance lobby located under the existing open canopy to improve customer access to the store and extend the existing customer café both to enhance the internal modernisation of the sales floor area.

"The new lobby extension is located under the existing open canopy and will enhance customer circulation to the store entrance and the café extension will increase the seating area to the customer cafe.

"The existing canopy and roadways will not be affected by the proposal. Six disabled parking bays will be relocated due to the cafe extension.

"The extensions will enhance the existing retail facilities and customer entrance area. The extensions will create increased activity at the front of the store providing improved customer circulation and a more welcoming front entrance utilising the space under the existing canopy and increased seating capacity in the customer cafe.

"The accessibility of the site is retained with good transportation links across the town.

"The site maintains the public pedestrian linkages to all publicly accessible sides of the store."

Shropshire Council hopes to make a final decision on the scheme by July 18.

People can comment on the proposal as part of consultation into the development by visiting the council website.

Market Drayton Town Council's planning committee will discuss the application at its meeting in the town hall on Thursday.
