Woman taken to hospital after crash near Market Drayton
Fire officers had to cut a woman free from a car after a crash on the A529 near Market Drayton.
Two cars were involved in the crash, which took place in Woodseaves, at around 10pm on Thursday.
Four fire crews attended and used cutting equipment and electric saws to free one woman. The crews worked at the scene for around an hour.
The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance with chest, abdominal, and neck pain.
A man who was also injured in the crash was treated and discharged at the scene.
The ambulance service said that the car the woman was in had also hit a tree.
A spokesman for Market Drayton Fire Station, which dispatched crews to the scene, said that they had to cut the roof off the car to get the woman out safely.
He said: "On arrival it was discovered that a collision had occurred between two cars, with both vehicles having sustained significant damage. One of the vehicles had come to rest at an angle, part way up a verge off the road. Due to the significant collision, one adult female was found to be medically trapped in one of the vehicles, through the nature of the injuries she had sustained.
"Following an assessment of the casualty by paramedics, and liaison between the fire and rescue service and ambulance service incident commanders, it was established that a full roof removal would be required, to allow for the best means of releasing the casualty safely.
"Personnel from all three stations worked closely together as a team, using hydraulic cutting and spreading equipment, battery powered electric saws and stabilisation equipment, to carry out a safe and timely extrication.
"During the extrication crews worked closely with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service, to ensure the casualty remained stable.
"Once released the casualty was transported to hospital via land ambulance, with what we believe are non life threatening injuries."
West Mercia Police also attended the incident.
