The improvements are being made to Morrisons in Maer Lane, Market Drayton.

A proposal was submitted to Shropshire Council to make the improvements, which has now been approved.

A statement submitted in support of the application states: “Whittam Cox Architects have been commissioned to provide a glazed entrance lobby located under the existing open canopy to improve customer access to the store and extend the existing customer cafe both to enhance the internal modernisation of the sales floor area.

“The extensions will enhance the existing retail facilities and customer entrance area. The extensions will create increased activity at the front of the store."

Six disabled parking bays will be relocated due to the cafe extension, the statement adds.

A report by Shropshire Council case officer Jane Preece said: "It is considered by the local planning authority that the proposed development is suitably located within the town centre of Market Drayton and is of an acceptable siting, scale and design.

"It will not adversely affect the character and appearance of the existing building or surrounding area, nor cause unacceptable harm to the residential amenities of neighbouring dwellings; local highway conditions or the general amenities of the locality, all subject to compliance with planning conditions."
