Preparations are being finalised for the Fox and Hounds Cheswardine Fun Run, which is expected to see hundreds of people take part on Saturday.

Runners are invited to join the turkey trot parading at 3.30pm for the festive sprint up the village high street to the Christmas tree.

This year the tree has been donated by Margaret Doublett, aged 103, from Market Drayton.

Following the turkey trot there will be a short carol service and the tree lights will be illuminated.

To celebrate its 23rd anniversary, this year organisers are also holding a fundraising Christmas fair and festive day between 12pm to 4pm in the village near Market Drayton.

Dave Faulkner, one of the organisers said: "We invite you to attend this unique event and enjoy the very best, village community and family day.

"We are pleased to announce that we have had support from over 20 artisan traders who come from across Shropshire dealing in the very best of hand crafted and made goods ideally suited to the Christmas gift buyer looking for that unusual and unique Christmas gift at an affordable price.

"A large cross section of products will be available, featuring crafted glass, cards and jewellery patchwork throws, signs and furniture textiles, knitted items and novelties, china, turned wood, Christmas wreaths, door stops, handmade felted bags, and speciality cakes.

"A free to enter children's Christmas card design competition is included and entrants can design their card on the day at the market.

"Last year saw a marvellous turnout. Traders and customers alike really enjoyed this unique fair and day. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Doublett for her wonderful gift of a Christmas tree. The Christmas carols and turning on of the tree lights really add to the occasion. All are very welcome."

Every year the event raises significant funds for a nominated charity and village self funding groups. This year the national charity to benefit from the event is Macmillan nurses.
