Images were shared by Market Drayton firefighters on social media, showing the blackened remains of a bath and a charred door.

The post on Twitter reminded people of the importance of having working fire alarms in their home.

Three fire crews were sent to the house in the early hours of Sunday, from stations in Market Drayton, Hodnet and Prees. They used a covering jet, hosereel jet and breathing apparatus to tackle the fire. Police were also on the scene.

One room on the first floor was completely destroyed by fire, while the remainder of the top floor was damaged by heat and smoke. Fire crews were sent to the area at about 1.20am. The area had been made safe by 2.40am.

The cause of the house fire continues to be investigated.
