Bikers from across the country were coming to Shropshire today to pay tribute to one of their own, a well-loved family man and former soldier.

James Greenwood died, aged 61, in Cumbria in early April, and his funeral was being held today, attended by bikers who were travelling from far and wide to see off their friend.

They will travel alongside the funeral procession through Market Drayton, where James lived, and are raising money for a number of charities with the blessing of his family.

A keen biker himself, James was popular in the town and further afield and had friends from his days in the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.

Gail Greenwood, his former wife, said the family was grateful for the show of support at a "devastating" time.

She said: "There has been such an outpouring of love and so many people wanted to come for the funeral.

"They asked us if we would be all right with them riding in front of the hearse and we said it would be fine.

"We're grateful that people have come from all over the country, and we would like to thank everyone that is coming to the funeral. It is such a lovely gesture."

Instead of accepting flowers, the Greenwood family will raise money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, Combat Stress and the Midlands Air Ambulance.
