Around 90 players raised more than £1,200 at the annual bridge drive in Market Drayton’s Beacon Community Centre in aid of Severn Hospice.

The event, held on Friday, is one of many organised by the charity’s Market Drayton Support Group every year.

But before the first cards were dealt, the group celebrated the long service of members Patsy Chinnock and Marg Parton, who have been volunteering for 33 and 25 years respectively.

Their efforts have contributed towards the group raising over £336,000 – averaging around £10,000 each year since it formed in 1985.

This has helped provide thousands of hours of care and support for families living with incurable illnesses in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.

Community Fundraising Officer, Mike Perry, said: “The work of our Market Drayton support group over the years has been vital to us and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication.

“It really is incredible to see Patsy and Marg giving up their time to support the hospice for so long, helping raise thousands of pounds towards our care between them.

“I am delighted to see everyone come together at the bridge drive to celebrate and recognise their achievements and can’t thank them enough for their commitment and hard work.”

Bridge players flocked to the community centre for the event and enjoyed a hot lunch and glass of wine, as well as coffee and cake.

The morning helped raise £1,217.28 for the hospice.
