Volunteer monitors needed to uphold Stoke Heath prison rules

A prison is appealing for new independent monitors to join its ranks.

HMP Stoke Heath near Market Drayton needs more people to come forward to make sure standards are applied at the prison.

There are currently eight monitors at the prison, members of the Independent Monitoring Board who check that Home Office rules are upheld.

The job is unpaid but expenses are covered, and applicants must be 18 and over and live within 35 miles of the prison.

No qualifications or experience are necessary, training is provided and the work will take about five days a month.
