Potential site identified for 125 new homes in Market Drayton
A site for 125 new homes in Market Drayton has been proposed.
The Strategic Land Group's £25 million, 4.5 hectare proposal off Adderley Road would come with road improvements and upgraded cycleways.
The company put forward the plans for family homes and a "network of open space" to contribute to Shropshire Council's target of 1,200 new homes in Market Drayton by 2036.
A spokeswoman from the Strategic Land Group said: "The delivery of housing at the site will be accompanied by road improvements and the upgrading of pedestrian and cycle linkages into Market Drayton, along with two new sections of footway and a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing.
"Shropshire Council is targeting housing growth of 28,750 dwellings by 2036; an average delivery rate of 1,430 new homes per year for the whole county.
"Market Drayton has been identified as a principle centre in contributing to strategic growth objectives, with a target of around 1,200 dwellings and 13 hectares of employment land to be delivered by 2036."
The area off Adderley Road is about 1.1 kilometres from Market Drayton's town centre. It is bordered to the north and west by fields, and to the south and east by houses and the Burnside Business Park.
Paul Smith, the company's managing director, said: “The gap between housing need and availability in the UK is growing ever wider, so it’s great to be able to bring forward sites such as this that are suitable to accommodate much-needed new homes.
"With the potential for 125 properties, this site supports Shropshire Council in meeting established housing requirement within Market Drayton.”
