The money was given to Stoke Upon Tern Parish Council by the National Lottery Community Fund.

It will go towards developing community champions within the parish in north Shropshire.

The project, running to the end of the year, will look to develop a series of environmental activities, community celebrations, bespoke training and publicity with and for local parishioners.

Parish council chairman Pete Waters said: “This is really good news for our rural parish and we owe a huge thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery for supporting our rural communities in this way.

“We have and continue to work with the group of pioneers from Eaton upon Tern, Wistanswick and Dutton Close in Stoke Heath who helped with a survey of local people to see what their views were about volunteering to become local community champions.

“Indeed these three settlements were the first areas to formally become community champions within the parish.

“These surveys have provided the bedrock on which the application was submitted and how the community outcomes will be evaluated.
