Fire at Market Drayton storage yard caused by exploding aerosol cans
Firefighters have been called to tackle a large blaze at a storage yard in North Shropshire.
The incident happened at 8.30pm last night in Victoria Wharf, Market Drayton, where used aerosol cans had exploded and set timber alight.
While the team from Market Drayton Fire Station were on route to the scene, black smoke could be seen coming from the location.
Once they were there, they confirmed that the incident involved a controlled burn which had got out of control.
The fire had spread to involve a large quantity of scrap wood, as well as household rubbish and an area of scrubland.
No one was reported to have been injured in the blaze.
Firefighters mobilised one fire appliance – a hosereel jet – to put out the blaze.
As the fire subsided, firefighters saw a number of pressurised aerosol cans which had exploded.
These cans can potentially cause serious injuries when exposed to fire and can be projected at some distance when they explode.
Firefighters have asked that people dispose of them correctly and not burn them with household waste.
