A housing association has said it is looking into ways to help a pensioner after he was left "housebound" when his new mobility scooter arrived and was six inches too wide for the path to his property.

John Timmis left housebound as his new new scooter is too wide for his path

John Timmis of Manor Gardens, Market Drayton, has not been able to leave his home for three weeks as his new scooter is too wide to get between his and his neighbour's fence.

The 85-year-old said his £4,500 mobility scooter arrived last month and was assembled at the back of his home.

However, after the mobility company's engineers left, the pensioner realised his new scooter would not go down the alleyway to his house as it was too wide.

"The old one failed and I rely on it to get about," he said.
