Council leader visits RAF Shawbury
Shropshire Council's leader visited RAF Shawbury, and stressed the importance of keeping a dialogue open between the Armed Forces and the council.
Councillor Peter Nutting, who is also Shrewsbury's mayor, visited the base on Thursday along with other delegates, and has since said it is "leading the way for helicopter training in the UK".
He said: "It was an excellent visit, we had a really enjoyable day, a very useful day.
"I talked to RAF Shawbury about future planning across Shropshire and how it will affect the Armed Forces as there is currently plans for a crematorium at Nesscliffe, and Nesscliffe Training Camp is nearby.
"It's important that we're all talking to each other as a way forward, I recognise the importance of the Armed Forces in Shropshire.
"The RAF has got some fantastic facilities, it seems to be leading the way in helicopter training in the UK.
"It's how we engage with the RAF, it's such a big employer in Shropshire.
