Peacock spotted in Shropshire village gardens

He might look perfectly happy, but this peacock has been homeless now for more than a week, left to wander the gardens of a north Shropshire village.

The Tilley Peacock

The peacock was first spotted about a week ago in Tilley, near Wem, on the roof of a house in the village before then being seen on a house in Shawbury Road.

Since then, it's been finding its way into gardens all around the village and residents are keen to track down its owners and reunite it with its family.

Rose Jones, who lives in Tilley, said: "It appeared about a week ago and it is just walking around gardens and waking everybody up.

"Despite enquiries locally, no-one seems willing to claim The Tilley One and we are concerned that it will get killed or injured if it keeps wandering aimlessly around. It is also very noisy, especially early in the morning.

"We have made various phone alles and nobody seems to know whose it is. It's not really doing anything particularly, just walking around.

"It's mainly been walking around the level crossing area of the village but it has been all over.

"There was talk of a peahen as well but it is just the peacock at the moment."

Peacocks, also known as the Indian Peafowl or blue peafowl, are native to South Asia, but introduced in many other parts of the world.

The owner of the peacock, or anyone who knows where it belongs, should contact Mrs Jones by emailing rose.knight@uwclub.net
