The meeting will discuss creating a new route serving Wem to solve ongoing problems with traffic.

Representatives from Wem Town Council, Wem Rural Parish Council and Shropshire Council will meet with North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson about the proposal, which is in its early stages.

Mr Paterson said he hoped people present at the meeting could come to an agreement about the route of the proposed road.

A new road to solve traffic issues, including large vehicles travelling through the town centre, has been an aspiration for many years, according to the town council.

Residents in the parish will be able to have their say on the prospect of a relief road in a survey as part of Shropshire Council's Local Plan Review.

Penny O'Hagan, clerk to the town council, said: "A survey will be sent out to all residents in the parish. It will ask questions about the amount of development in Wem people would like to see, infrastructure priorities and a question on whether they support the aspiration of a relief road.

"While the town council supports it, it is important we ask the local community.

"People should receive it in the next couple of weeks and it is very important they fill in the survey and for their views to be heard."

Tomorrow's meeting will take place behind closed doors in Edinburgh House, Wem.
