Motorcyclist, 71, killed in crash near Whitchurch is named

A motorcyclist who died after a serious crash near Whitchurch involving a bike, two cars and a lorry has been named as Paul Emlyn Jones.

The 71-year-old, from Wrexham, died following the crash on the A41 at Prees Heath, at about 2.15pm on Thursday.

His inquest is due to open tomorrow at Shirehall, Shrewsbury.

The road, which runs between Tern Hill and the junction with the A49 at Prees Heath, was closed while police investigated the circumstances of the collision.

Paramedics carried out treatment at the roadside but Mr Jones died at the scene.

A rapid response vehicle, two ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, with a trauma doctor and critical care paramedic on board, were sent to the scene.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Laura Maltby said an investigation was under way and officers were keen to speak to witnesses.
