The findings by the Care Quality Commission included observations that Greenfields, in Liverpool Road, Whitchurch, was safe, caring, supportive and respectful of individuals' privacy and dignity.

It also highlighted the safe management of medicines, the appropriate staffing levels and the fact that residents and their families were actively encouraged to provide regular feedback on any improvements which could be made to the service.

The unannounced inspection took place in mid-August and involved inspectors viewing all aspects of the premises and services, speaking to people living at the home, their families, the staff and a healthcare professional who happened to be on-site at the time.

As a result of the visit, Greenfields, which can care for up to 75 residents and was purpose-built by Coverage Care Services in 2010, has been rated as 'good' across all of the categories.

The inspectors said: "People received care from staff that had the skills and knowledge to meet their needs.

"People's rights were protected by staff who were aware of current guidance and legislation directing their work.

"Staff received support and guidance from a registered manager who they found approachable.

"People and staff felt able to express their views and felt their opinions mattered. People had good relationships with the staff who supported them. People's likes and dislikes were known by staff who assisted them in a way which was personal to them."

Coverage Care Services is Shropshire's largest independent care provider, operating 14 homes across the county on a not-for-profit basis.

Home manager, Elizabeth Jones, said: "It is a huge testament to the compassion and commitment of the whole team at Greenfields that they have achieved this superb report.

"It needs everyone to be pulling together, from catering and housekeeping to care, nursing and entertainment staff as well, to make this a real home and I'm delighted the inspectors were able to see that during their visit."

Coverage Care chief executive, David Coull, said: "We are extremely proud of all of the staff at Greenfields for making this such a happy, caring and safe place to live.

"The inspectors have carried out a surprise inspection on a normal day and found a home that is functioning in a way that we would all hope and expect a modern care setting to be like."
