Residents trying to raise £370,000 to buy their village pub near Whitchurch
A group of residents are trying to raise £370,000 to buy their village pub.
The group is trying to raise the cash to purchase and safeguard the future of the The White Lion, in Ash Magna near Whitchurch.
A public meeting is due to be held tonight in the village hall at 7pm to discuss the plans.
Resident and committee member of the group, Alli Mair said: "We need to raise as much interest as we possibly can to try and ensure we raise the necessary funds to purchase the pub and maintain it as a facility.
"The village is very keen to hold onto it. It really is the centre of our community and we want to preserve this jewel in our village’s crown.
"The pub is still open at the moment, an offer had been made but has now been withdrawn.
"There is a community group trying to purchase the pub with the backing of the Plunkett Trust who help rural communities in the UK to take control of issues affecting them through community ownership.
"We need to raise £370,000 to purchase and renovate the pub however, we are very hopeful that we can secure funds of £100,000 from the Plunkett Trust."
