Bomb disposal team carries out controlled explosion in Whitchurch
A bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion near Whitchurch railway station.
Emergency services were called to Station Road, after 5pm on Thursday.
Trains were temporarily suspended following a security alert but it is believed the wider area was not evacuated.
Police said they were called out over concerns of a suspicious vehicle parked at the services on Station Road.
A spokesman said: "Officers attended and identified a suspicious package. As a precaution a cordon was put in place and EOD attended to make the package safe.
"Due to the proximity to the train station British Transport Police were contacted.
"It is not believed there was ever any threat to the safety of wider members of the public."
