Beloved motorcyclist killed in crash near Shropshire border
A beloved motorcyclist from Chirk has died in a crash close to the Shropshire border.
The tragedy happened yesterday on the A525 between Whitchurch and Bangor-on-Dee.
Mr Michael Howard Williams, 56, a team member at the well-known Williams Plant Hire business in the Welsh border town, died after his bike was involved in a collision with a car on the stretch of road close to the Holly Bush junction.
His family have paid tribute to Mr Williams who they said was a caring father and a fantastic grandad. They said motorbikes were his passion.
Police today renewed their call for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the vehicles before the crash to come forward.
The crash happened at 12.40pm on Sunday and involved Mr Williams' black motorcycle and a grey Audi Q7.
The road was closed for several hours while police investigations were carried out.
'Shock and disbelief'
North Wales Police's Road Policing Unit said that Mr Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family issued a tribute, saying that after attending Chirk Convent School he attended Lindisfarne School before joining the family company – Williams Plant Hire of Chirk.
They said: “We are in total shock and disbelief and never expected that we would lose him so soon.
“He was a caring and loving father to Georgia, Damien and Tanya and a fantastic grandad to his six grandchildren.
“Motorbikes were his passion as well as shooting and fishing.
“He was a hardworking man who would do anything for his family. We shall miss him so much.”
Witnesses needed
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have seen either vehicle beforehand to come forward.
They said their thoughts are with the family of Mr Williams.
Sergeant Liam Ho of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our heartfelt condolences are with the motorcyclist’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or to anybody who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision and who has dashcam footage to contact us immediately.”
