Casualty freed from car is taken to hospital after crash closes A41 near Whitchurch

A casualty trapped inside a vehicle after a crash which closed the A41 near Whitchurch was freed by firefighters and taken to hospital.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to remove a door to the vehicle in order to remove the casualty during the incident at 1.07am on Friday.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust confirmed that a "male patient was taken to hospital".

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

"One casualty was trapped in the vehicle.

"Firefighters used specialist equipment to remove the door to the vehicle in order to remove the casualty."

They added that the A41 was closed in both directions whilst the incident was dealt with.

"The casualty was passed over to the care of paramedics," they said.

The Cheshire fire crew from Malpas was joined by a team from Whitchurch who were called in from over the border to assist.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Shropshire Fire crews from Whitchurch attended this incident in Cheshire to assist North West Fire Service."

The service's stop message was sent at 1.46am.
