Andrew Davies, from Cherry Tree Drive, Oswestry, has organised the bed push event, where he and a group of his friends and family will be pushing a hospital bed from Wrexham Maelor Hospital to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen tomorrow to raise money for Hope House and Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Mr Davies’s son, Charlie Davies, who had Duchenne muscular dystrophy, died nearly two years ago aged 15.

It's the second time Mr Davies and friends have taken part in the bed push.

Last year's bed push raised more than £2,890 for Muscular Dystrophy UK, and this year Mr Davies hopes that sum increases, as the group will also be raising funds for Hope House.

Mr Davies decided to also raise funds for Hope House this year to thank the charity for the support they've provided him and his family.

The push will begin at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, before travelling through Ruabon, Overton Bridge, Overton, Ellesmere and Whittington before reaching their destination at the Orthopaedic Hospital.

As well as Mr Davies, other bed pushers include his 13-year-old son Billie Davies, Neil Peever, Rob Harris and Jordan Booth.

Mr Davies said he hoped the group's fundraising efforts would serve as a lasting legacy to Charlie.

He said: "After last year's bed push ending up being such a success, we wanted to do it again this year and hope to do it every year or every other as a way of raising funds for charity and awareness of muscular dystrophy.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has sponsored and supported us so far. It means a lot."

Next year Mr Davies plans to push his son Billie in a wheelchair from John O'Groats to Lands End in 30 days, beating the current record of 34 days.
