David Preston, clerk to Oswestry Town Council, is one of four nominated in the National Association of Local Council's 2017 awards.

Mr Preston has been clerk to the council for more than three decades. Others in the running are Shar Roselman from Newport Pagnell, Sylvia Dobie from Gillingham and Mark Williams of Falmouth. The winner will be named at the end of the month.

He said he was honoured to be shortlisted.

Last year Oswestry was named STAR council of the year, the major award in the annual event. Its town centre CCTV system has also been recognised in past award ceremonies.

The Association says that the STAR Councils 2017 Awards is an all important recognition of all the effective hard work that is undertaken by local councils, councillors, officers and county associations.
