Woman, 19, fighting for life after 50ft scaffold fall in Oswestry
A 19-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after falling 50ft from scaffolding in Oswestry town centre.
The teenager was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after falling from the scaffolding at the rear of the town's Poundland store on Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene at about 3.25pm by a member of staff at Poundland in Cross Street.
Inspector Jeff Morris, of West Mercia Police, said the girl suffered serious pelvic and spinal injuries, as well as a possible head injury.
He said she was in a life-threatening condition and her family had been notified.
He said: “We were informed of the incident by a member of staff from Poundland at 3.25pm.
“It seems that the young lady had scaled scaffolding at the back of the store.
“She’s fallen from the scaffolding and sustained serious injuries to her pelvis and spine, and possibly had a head injury.
“Thankfully she is still alive.
“She was taken by air ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
“We estimated she fell 50ft.”
It is believed that staff were evacuated from the Poundland store.
The entrance on to English Walls was also temporarily closed.
Jamie Arrowsmith, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, confirmed the Midlands Air Ambulance from RAF Cosford was sent to the scene along with an ambulance.
