The Marches School in Oswestry joined forces with the town's independent book shop Booka Books hosting one of just five Biggest Book Show on Earth events in the UK.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from primary schools in and around the town were inspired by authors and illustrators and there was a surprise visit from the characters from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach.

Authors Abi Elphinstone, Olaf Falafel, Andy Griffiths, Katherine Woodfine and Jennifer Bell read and spoke to the pupils about the world of books, the aspirations the pupils have and the opportunities being an author brings.

Carrie Morris, from Booka Books, said: “To be able to bring an event like this to the young

people of Oswestry and the surrounding area is fantastic and we are privileged have organised

such an event with the published authors involved”.

Hugh Jackson, assistant head teacher from The Marches School said: “We are tremendously

excited to be hosting this event which we hope has inspired young people to read and write more.”

The Biggest Book Show on Earth was in Oswestry during the work of World Book Day on March 1.

Each year World Book Day is held to help raise literacy levels and create readers of the future, encouraging children and young people to discover, read and love books.
