Sung in English by the Heritage Opera touring company, the production is billed as perfect for opera lovers and those who have never experience the musical genre.

In a bid to get more young people involved, children will have free admission to the production at the Marches School on April 15 at 6pm.

Mike Coppock, who is helping to bring the opera to the town said it was important too allow children to experience music.

"Operas were, after all, the musicals of their day," he said.

"I was taken along to a performance of the Pirates of Penzance when I was eight because my mother was helping on the night," he said.

"I sat at the back completely spellbound. It began a musical journey for me that led to music school and becoming a DJ in Manchester."

Tickets for the production are £26 with children's tickets free and are available from Rowanthorn in Chapel Court Oswestry, 01691 238227 or rowanthorn.co.uk.

"The singers are all fantastic experienced professionals, who have appeared with many leading opera companies in the UK and beyond and they are accompanied by a five piece orchestral ensemble," Mr Coppock said.
