Fire Tones celebrate success of Christmas charity single
They may have been beaten to the top spot by a song about a sausage roll but firefighters who produced a new version of Do They Know its Christmas say there are delighted with the success of their charity single.
Created from an idea by Welshpool firefighters, Chris Birdsell-Jones, The Fire Tones, single has sold thousands of singles to raise money for the Band Aid and Fire Service charities.
With the track not being played by the national BBC Channels the single failed to get into the official charts.
But the Fire Tones were confirmed as Christmas Number One in terms of physical sales of CDs, and it reached number nine the week before Christmas in the Vodafone top 40.

The official number one was Lad Baby's 'We built this city' another charity single with money going to the Trussel Trust food banks.
Oswestry firefighter, Kev Williams, who played guitar on the single, said: "Thank you to every single person who has bought, shared, downloaded and watched. The support has been absolutely overwhelming.
"Unfortunately for the final overall chart, which includes downloads and streams too, we were not in Top 40 but it is still a massive achievment by everyone involved."
It is too early to say how much the CD and downloads will have raised.
