The accident on the A528 just outside Overton happened at 10.30pm on New Year’s Day, closing the road.
Police said three men and two women in their teens and early 20s were taken to Wrexham Maelor and the Countess of Chester hospitals.
One of the women was later transferred to Stoke with life-changing injuries and a man to Walton Hospital, Liverpool.
Ambulance services from England and Wales sent 10 vehicles to the scene.
North Wales police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw the blue Skoda Fabia before the crash to contact them. They also want to hear from motorists with dash cam footage.
