Artists use animals and nature for inspiration

Artists with very different subjects are exhibiting their creations at Oswestry's Visitor and Exhibition Centre in February.

From lifelike animal portraits to abstract textural art, the work is adorning walls and plinths at the historical centre next to St Oswald's Parish Church.

The winner of the People’s Choice art competition 2018, Lorren Francis, has an exhibition of her animal artwork.

Lorren first studied animal care in college but then realised that art was her first love and switched to study art and animation, graduating with a first honour degree from Glyndwr University.

She now runs her Four Paws Portraits pet business combining her love of animals and art.

Christine McHardy from Lake Vyrnwy uses the countryside around the mid Wales reservoir for inspiration for her paintings.

"I live there and walk through its magical landscape every day," she said.

"Everywhere you go you see glimpses of the reservoir."

Water of a different kind is the subject of Shropshire artist Jon Young's current exhibition of seascapes. Most of the work features the seascapes of north Wales but also looks further afield.

Jon trained as an artist but then went to pursue another career, returning to his first love in 2003.

"I have lived in beautiful Shropshire for many years and having travelled about a bit, still find myself drawn to the coast whenever possible," he said.

Nichola Griffiths' papier mache sculpture and textural abstract pieces were created for her Masters degree.

The exhibitions run at the centre until February 23.
