Coopers heading into the travel industry
A gourmet food company that services cafes and shops up and down the country is soon to be supplying a different customer.
Coopers Gourmet Foods, based near Poynton, Shrewsbury, employs 27 staff and produces around 30,000 products a day from sausage rolls to pieces.
Now they are branching out into the travel business, and people could soon be tucking into a Shropshire Blue sausage roll while lounging back on their flight abroad.
India Watkiss, commercial director at the company said tests have been done at the headquarters for the products.
She said: "It is moving into the travel business which is exciting, it is an exciting time.
"We have had people here this week testing, about what temperature they needed to be heated while in the air."
The family run company involves India, her brother Jordan, mother Sue and father Ivan who is the founder of the business.
They have grown and grown since starting up, and have already had an extension on their facility.
They now develop their own pastry rather than buying it in, and this move will help the business continue to grow.
India has also revealed that the spike in the number of vegan products that are around on the market, has also provided the business with a boost.
However, despite the well known Greggs vegan sausage roll, Coopers have been bucking the trend months before.
India added: "We have had a vegan sausage roll and vegan products for a long time, they go really well.
"They're made up of leeks and other things so we don't call them sausage rolls, but they are so popular and we have had a lot of interest in them.
"It is a big thing now, and with Greggs bringing out their vegan sausage roll it has given us a little bit of a boost."
