Celebration for Oswestry Hillfort campaigners
Hillfort campaigners have welcomed the news that an Iron Age monument is safe from new development.
Seven sites near to Oswestry Hillfort had been put forward in Shropshire Council’s local plan review to be considered for development.
But the council’s planners have decided not to progress with any of the locations.
It comes after years of campaigning from the Hands Off Old Oswestry Hillfort group.
A spokesman said: “Building on the success of last weekend’s hillfort hug, we welcome the news that Old Oswestry’s setting is safe from development for 17 years, and are delighted that Shropshire Council has now invited us to meet with them.”
The new plan will act as a blueprint for future development until 2036.
