A large number of properties in the heart of the town were hit by the loss of electricity at lunchtime.

Engineers from SP Energy Networks reconnected the power just after 1pm.

A spokesman said that a network fault had affect a "large number of properties in the surrounding area".

The company looked to reset the network remotely and also sent engineers to the scene.

Oswestry barber, Nick Llewelyn, did not let the power cut stop him finishing a customer's hair.

With the shop plunged into darkness he took his barber's chair and his client outside onto Albion Hill and finished his haircut with his battery clippers.

"The show must go on," he said.
