£90k awarded for Oswestry cultural events
Nearly £100,000 will be available to run cultural events in a county town over the next three years.
A newly formed Cultural Consortium in Oswestry has been awarded £90,000 to carry out the series of events, which will share the heritage of the town.
Graham Mitchell, Chair of the Cultural Consortium, said: “This award is fantastic news. We will use it to develop ways of sharing the heritage of our wonderful community, with locals and visitors, through involvement and engagement.
“It has also become a focus, bringing together a group of diverse cultural and heritage organisations and interested individuals with the common aim of celebrating Oswestry.”
The funding, from Historic England, National Lottery and Arts Council England, will enable the Cultural Consortium to plan a series of events until 2024.
The aim is to provide activities which will give an opportunity for communities and visitors to engage with their high street through art, culture and history.
Samantha Jones, High Street Heritage Action Zone Project Officer, added: “We are so grateful to Historic England for the award. It is a testament to the Cultural Consortium and its programme ideas that they have been able to secure this fund.
“We look forward to working with the members of the Cultural Consortium to develop a varied programme of events for everyone to take part in.”
As part of the programme the Cultural Consortium is seeking submissions from a suitably qualified consultant for the task of facilitator to help develop the group, as well as providing formative evaluation services for the delivery and conclusion phases of the programme.
