Mayor's raises £1,000 in his charity run

Oswestry's Mayor raised more than £1,000 for the Motor Neuron Disease charity when he completed the Oswestry 10k recently.

Councillor Mark Jones in his monthly blog thanks those to sponsored him and cheered him and all the other runners on the day.

In his blog he also praised The Princess Royal for visiting the town for a tour of the AICO company. He said he had been fortunate to meet Princess Anne who, his said was the most hardworking Royal.

He said he was also impressed with the AICO company and its attitude to apprenticeships and training local people.

The mayor also paid tribute to the students at Derwen College for students with learning disabilities and difficulties.

"I had an amazing time at the Graduation Day and seeing the joy of the students coming forward to pick up their Degrees. I heard their inspirational stories of how coming to the college had turned them from shy children into adults who could live independently.
