Railway crossing failure near Oswestry causes Easter traffic chaos
A railway crossing has failed in a village near Oswestry, causing a traffic build-up in the area.
West Mercia Police advised people to avoid Whittington after the crossing failed.
A spokesman for the West Mercia Operations & Communications Centre said: "Traffic incident, Whittington railway crossing near Oswestry.
"Network Rail have informed us that we have a failed railway crossing causing traffic build-up in the area. Please avoid for time being."
A spokesman for Network Rail said it was just a fault and nothing which was caused by anything external.
Teams were sent to the scene to operate the level crossing manually while others were fault-finding.
The spokesman said traffic problems should be easing.
