Firefighters tackle large blaze at Kronospan factory in Chirk - with video
Firefighters tackled a large blaze at the Kronospan woodchip factory in Chirk today.
The fire broke out just before 5am.
Six fire crews from Chirk, Wrexham, Johnstown, Llangollen, Deeside and Shropshire were in attendance.
North Wales Fire Service said the blaze was confined to wood chip within a silo area and was tackled by firefighters in conjunction with engineers from Kronospan.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a fire at Kronospan, Chirk. The call was received at 04.57hrs this morning.
"Six appliances from Chirk, Wrexham, Johnstown, Llangollen, Deeside and Shropshire are in attendance including two area ladder platforms and an incident command unit.
"The fire is confined to wood chip within a silo area and is currently being tackled by firefighters in conjunction with engineers from Kronospan.The cause of the fire has not yet been determined."
A statement by Kronospan said: "Kronospan would like to thank the North Wales Fire and Rescue service for their rapid response to the fire we had on site this morning.
"The fire was in one of the driers but is now under control and no one was hurt.
"We are now in the process of investigating how it started and our engineers will continue to work closely with the North Wales Fire and Rescue service to determine this.”
