Woman seriously injured and dog killed as they are hit by car

A woman walking her dog was seriously injured and her pet was killed when they were hit by a car.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after the collision, which happened shortly before 6.15pm on Friday in Colliery Road, Chirk.

North Wales Police said the 57-year-old woman was taken to Wrexham's Maelor Hospital by ambulance with serious leg injuries.

She was then transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. However her dog died at the scene.

Pc Robert Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “I am appealing for anybody who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“Equally if anybody has any dash cam footage from their vehicle, or if anybody who lives in the vicinity that has private CCTV that may assist our investigation I would urge them to contact us immediately.”
