Chirk restaurant named for unpaid taxes
An Indian restaurant and a construction business have been named on a HMRC list for failing to pay thousands of pounds in taxes and fines.
The HMRC has published its latest list of current tax defaulters, and included in the list is the Hot Grill Restaurant, formerly known as Chirk Tandoori, and a construction business registered to a Mark Robert Williams, in St George's, Telford.
On the list it states that the restaurant has failed to pay more than £80,000 in tax between September 2012 and November 2016, and it must repay the money along with £37,000 in costs.
The restaurant has been contacted for comment.
And in the case of Mr Williams, the list states between April 2010 and April 2017 he failed to pay £32,000 and must repay the sum along with £22,400 worth of costs.
A spokesman for the HMRC said it wants the local communities to know that it is tackle deliberate defaulters.
A spokesman said: "Publishing taxpayers’ names is not something we do lightly.
"However, we want the local community to know we are tackling deliberate defaulters and it encourages others to get back on track.”
“Most people declare the tax that is due, but there are a small minority who try to evade their responsibilities.”
“The people named have cheated the exchequer, and that’s unfair to those who pay their tax.”
